THE DEATH PENALTY
OKAN ŞAHİN
08. 05. 2014
Death penalty means ending guilty people life because of their crimes or bad actions. The death penalty was being used until the 20th century. However, today, it is unfortunately no longer used. In recent years, the law of death penalty has been argued to be passed again. While some people think that the death penalty shouldn’t be passed again, I believe that the death penalty is necessary for the society because it provides justice, it deters people from committing crime, and feeding guilty people cost a lot of money.
First of all, the state should pass the law of death penalty because it provides justice. Some people may say that the permanent prison punishment is enough for the people who committed unacceptable crimes. However, is it enough to put someone who killed 15 innocent children into the prison? Sometimes, the death penalty is the only way to provide the justice. If the government want to provide the justice in a complete way, they should apply the law of death penalty.
Second, the state should pass the law of death penalty because it deters people from committing crimes. It is a well-known fact that the countries that have applied the death penalty to their justice system have lower rate of crimes. For example, Iran, which is a country located on Asia, has been using the death penalty for years and thanks to this, Iran suffers less from crimes than Turkey. People in prison damage others, but still enjoy life, and it is not fair. When people know that the result of crimes is the death penalty, they will try to be more careful about not committing crimes.
Finally, the government should pass the law of death penalty again because taxpayers do not want to feed people in prison who committed crimes. Criminals who have been imprisoned for life will generally live in prison more than 30 years. Every year, the state wastes lots of money for them and they have the opportunity to live without working, which is not fair. As a taxpayer, I do not want to pay a criminal to live with my money. Taxpayers pay their taxes to the state because they want to live in a better country, but when those taxes are used for criminals who damaged taxpayers' peace, it makes us question the reason why we pay our taxes.
In sum, the law of death penalty should be passed again because it provides a better justice system, it deters people from committing crimes, and it prevents taxpayers from paying their taxes for criminals. Prisons are full with the people who committed crimes and they live in a wealthy life. They wake up whenever they want, they eat what is cooked for them, and they drink their tea, and so on. An innocent citizen cannot event live in that kind of world. Therefore, the state should pass the law of death penalty.

FREE EDUCATION

The opinion that college or university education should be tuition free for-all-policy is very controversial. Some people think that it is beneficial for their country, some people don’t. Even though making all schools free can be very expensive for state economy, I think its advantages are valuable. And there are several reasons why university education should be free for everyone.
First, the most powerful reason of free education is equality of opportunity. Because there are many families who can’t pay for the education of their children, young people from poor families can’t continue their education. This is a barrier for many intelligent young. Therefore, it must be a duty of government to make education accessible to everyone. Talented youth are an important asset of a nation. In addition to that, they can help to develop the economy of a country and make it prosper.
Second, another advantage of making education free is happiness. Nowadays we can see the students who do different jobs to earn money. This limits their leisure time and they can’t spend time with their friends. After a while, this causes students to live a stressful life. However, they continue their education easily and can focus on their lectures if the education is free. Finally, they live their lives and become happy.
Finally, the free education means more educated people. When the rate of educated people increases, societies develop. And higher education leads to the productive workforce. As a result of this, countries have higher level of innovation and productivity growth. On the other hand, the educated people have more chance to find well-paid jobs. Then, they pay a lot of money to the government as a tax. In short, making education free adds a lot of things to community.
In conclusion, there are many arguments about making education free. Although it can be very expensive for state economy, its advantages help to develop country. Thanks to free education, many children who are from poor families can reach their goals. To sum up, making university education free gives people equal opportunities and this is important for society.

THE EFFECTS OF INTERNET ON HUMAN LIFE

With the invention of the internet, there were many changes on human life. Its communication, education, and entertainment functions made it an integral part of our lives. In today’s society, people start to spend time with it at young ages. People start to think whether internet is a useful thing or not. Therefore, we can see both positive and negative effects of internet on human life.

First, the positive effects of internet are obvious on human life. Internet is a huge library: resources, books, articles, videos, comments can be found easily. This helps people to reach information quickly. For example, students can find researches easily for their courses. On the other hand, on the internet, there are many sites for people to spend time and to have fun for. Whenever they want, they can watch a film, match or documentary. By watching videos they can find hobbies such as painting, playing guitar.

The other positive effects of internet can be seen on human life. Internet helps people to chat with each other despite the fact that they are far places. Thanks to that, they can learn different cultures and languages. They can chat with not only strange people but also their friends. Thus, it has an important role in socializing. In addition to that, internet allows us cheap communication. For instance, a very costly phone call which you make can be in a minimum cost on internet. In conclusion, internet saves both time and money.

On the other hand, there are negative effects of internet. Internet, with its services in various fields can be addictive. People who are addicted to internet become detached from social life. For example, children are always spending a lot of time with computer instead of playing outside with their friends now. Therefore, their personal development is also not healthy. The other negative effect of internet is violence. Online violent games affect children negatively and we saw the one example of this in Germany. A student who is aficionado of Counter Strike game killed his 17 friends with a gun.

In conclusion, there are both positive and negative effects of internet on human life. As internet users, everything is in our hands. We mustn’t spend a lot of time with it and we must use it for our benefits. When we use anything, we mustn’t be addict to it.

THE EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENT ON CHILDREN’S LIFE

The most important difference that separates people from other organisms is a social being. People live in community, influence society and are influenced by them. Their behaviours are shaped by the impact of the social environment. Therefore, the effects of environment on children’s life can be seen by observing the effects of parents, teachers, and friends.

The effects of parents must be studied to see how children are affected by environment. The behaviour of parents towards children determines the location of children not only in family but also in society. When they trust and support their children, children win a good character. They don’t hesitate and have concerns fail when faced with a new situation. On the other hand, overprotection or too much attention prevents the development of children. They feel themselves vulnerable in some places where there is no parent. Therefore, they have difficulty in getting used to the school environment.

The effects of teachers must be studied to see how children are affected by environment. Having a healthy personality of children, the role of the teacher is very great. However, teachers must follow some things to educate students on the desired character and personality. For example, in relationship with student, love should be foundation. Students want to close with a teacher trying to understand themselves. They begin to like courses. Then, there is not an antisocial behaviour in the school.

The effects of friends must be studied too see how children are affected by environment. When we observe friendship, we see that more positive effects. For example, it teaches cooperation and sharing. Additionally, it facilitates setting goal and making decision. On the other hand, the negative effects of wrong choice of friends are also seen. For instance, wrong friend cause a person to fall into bad habits. After that, these habits affect a person’s whole life.

In conclusion, we can see the effects of environment easily on children’s life. Because children’s behaviours are shaped by environment, it should be thoroughly investigated. I think that families should be educated about these issues. After that, people develop in a healthy way. It should be noted that education of people will affect the whole society.

THE CHANGES IN CLOTHING AND STYLE

The clothing and style of people are changing day by day. In this changing, periods and movements play an important role. When we look the recent past, many currents and their effects can be seen clearly. Therefore, in terms of these movements period, clothing and style can be viewed in three different times and these are the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

First, we can see the currents and their effects on people’s clothing and style in the 1970s. Toward the end of the 1960s, the young started a movement against the system, consumption and people who were called hippies were revealed. They were the children of love and freedom. They had a motto and it was “Make love not war.” In addition to this, the youth of this movement created their own unique style of dressing. Colourful clothes, large floral patterns were the main clothing. As well as long skirts, boots, and dresses were widely used.

Second, we can see the movements and their effects on people’s clothing and style in the 1980s. In the 80s, women began to work in managerial positions in business. In order to appear stronger than they were, they started to choose more masculine clothes. To show shoulders broad, they preferred to big shoulder pads and short hair. On the other hand, youth were in another world. Due to the Disco Era, young people started to wear clothes in bright, fluorescent colours. They tried to emulate Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Finally, we can see the differences and their effects on people’s clothing in 1990s. In these years, a new trend which was called “Grunge” started to spread. Young people gave up on brightly coloured clothes and began to wear relax and shabby clothes. The clothes which they wore were military boots, sweaters, plaid shirts, and ample jeans. Additionally, there were also changes in women’s clothing. Most of them began to appear more feminine. As a result of their self-esteem, there was an increase in formfitting clothes.

In conclusion, the periods and movements have an important role on people’s clothing and style. When we look at the periods, we can easily see the changes in clothing. In my opinion, these changes will continue throughout the history of mankind. Maybe, one day, people begin to wear dresses in a very different style from our period and they might see us as strange people.

Second Draft 2- THE DIFFERENCES IN WOMAN LIFE

                          THE DIFFERENCES IN WOMAN LIFE

Like many other countries, Turkey is in the midst of major social change. This social change affected people’s outlook on life. And it caused generational differences. When we compare, it is obvious to see that women in today’s world are different than women in our grandmothers’ time in Turkey in terms of fig, education and social status.

First, we can see the difference easily between our grandmothers’ time and today in woman clothing. Anciently, clothing was shaped according to the needs. Therefore, when a woman bought a dress, they chose what they can use more. In addition to that, they cared to spend as little money as possible they had because economic opportunities weren’t as good as now. On the other hand, clothing is shaped according to pleasures in today’s world. Women are always buying whatever they want and trying to wear trendy clothes. Moreover, some of them can spend large amounts of their money to wear just an outfit for a day.

Second, we can see how much changed education system and female education rates. 30 years ago, Turkey was very bad situation when we compared to now. Thus, not only women but also men had difficulty in getting education. As well as, most families didn’t want to send their girls to school due to the social conditions of the period. However with the development of Turkey, positive changes have occurred in women’s education. There isn’t any girl who doesn’t go to school. In this situation, compulsory education has an important role. According to compulsory education system, everyone have to study to high school.

Finally, we can see the changes in women’s social status. In our grandmothers’ time, perspective on women didn’t allow them to take place in working life. Cooking, raising children, cleaning were things that were expected from them. People behaved as if women couldn’t do important jobs. Today, point of view on women changed. They began working in managerial position. After that, social perception has changed and women started to see more respect.

In conclusion, we can see the differences between our grandmothers’ time and today in terms of clothing, education and social status. I think all these changes were necessary and in a positive direction. And it must continue to do. We should behave women in a positive way because they are very important factor in the development of a country.
